Hey Lauren what have you been up to since our last interview?
*We unfortunately had a shortened show season with the cancellation of US Finals and Dressage at Devon. We did make the trip to Virginia in October for Regional Championships. We had a phenomenal show. I had two Champions and two Reserve Champions myself and my amateur and junior clients had several Champion and Reserve Championships. We were disappointed that Finals was cancelled but are now gearing up for the Florida show season. We had a phenomenal year in sales. I haven’t checked the exact numbers yet but I believe it will be one of our best years yet! We had a spectacular group of high quality sales horses ranging from three year olds to FEI. We’re hoping to maintain this momentum through the end of the year and on into Florida. I’m so grateful to have had such a wonderful group of owners and clients trust us with their horses this year. I hope 2021 is just as fortunate.
Tell us about your trip every year to Florida?
We will begin the Great Florida Migration shortly after Christmas. We will have 25 horses this season in Florida. I have two fantastic working students joining us this winter in addition to my amazing assistant, Jessie Hayes. Packing for this many horses always involves a bit of chaos even though we’ve been doing it for fourteen years. Personally I think the chaos is part of the fun! We ship most of the horses with our fabulous shipper, Kevin Hennessy and Nobody’s Business Horse Transport. Kevin has been shipping for me since 2007 and we trust his people completely. Jessie and I trailer some of our own horses down and also the working student’s horses. The horses we ship ourselves overnight at the halfway point in South Carolina at the Florence Horse Center. We will spend this season at Adam Pollack’s fantastic White Fences Equestrian Center. We are looking forward to returning to the White Fences community this winter! I live on the farm as does one of the working students. The other two rent rooms in nearby Fox Trail so we’re all very close to the horses which is convenient on those early show day mornings.
Will you be showing in Florida for the 2021 season?
We are most definitely planning to show this winter season. I have a fantastic mare that will hopefully start in the small tour, if she’s ready. And we have several very exciting young horses moving on up the levels. I have two more knocking on the door of Grand Prix so we’ll see when they are ready to make their debut. My working students have competition goals for this season as do several of my amateur clients who will be joining us in Florida. I’m looking forward to training in some awesome weather with easy access to amazing help for myself in addition to working towards my student’s goals. Plus it’s great to be able to see friends that I don’t get to see nearly enough of during the summer season. One of the highlights of the season for us is the Challenge of the Americas quadrille. So assuming Covid doesn’t cancel COTA we are VERY much looking forward to it!
How many sale horses will you be taking?
I’m not sure how many sales horses we will end up taking because at this point our sales season is still going strong so I expect to sell a few more before we leave. I’m thinking we will have 2-5 sales horses but at this point it’s a bit too early to tell. I would certainly like to have some nice ones to sell down there! We’re excited to get down there and get started
